SAME DIFFERENCE was created as the branding for UCDA’s 2023 Design Education Summit at Bowling Green State University. The conference’s theme is creating accessible, integrative, and inclusive futures, with aims to recognize and connect us as a collective and individual, common and uncommon, and average and extraordinary. The creation and ideation for SAME DIFFERENCE was a collaborative effort, trying to encapsulate the theme of the event into a unique branding experience.

UCDA Conference
In collaboration with fellow classmates and BGSU professors, the branding for SAME DIFFERENCE was created. We decided to create a custom typeface using a modular system to show how the logo could stay the same, but parts could be swapped out to represent differences.
We experimented with different shapes and grids and ultimately landed upon what you see today. We custom-created a set of 10+ textures and patterns that could be combined in multiple different ways. The patterns include squiggly lines representing the brain, spikey lines to reflect wheelchair spokes, wavy lines to reflect the retina, and many more.
